3G May Bring More Ads

Advertising could help mobile phone operators pay for future third-generation (3G) networks and help tempt consumers into signing up for them. NTT DoCoMo launched its 3G service in October in central Tokyo. One of the main ways that NTT is offsetting the cost of this 3G network is by making heavy use of advertising, sponsorship and promotions. Other operators around the world are watching Japan closely, and may adopt similar strategies for their 3G networks.
