FCC to Remove Analog Requirement in 2007
Aug 8, 2002, 1:52 PM by (staff)
The Federal Communications Commission today is expected to give wireless carriers permission to shut down their analog networks in five years, say people familiar with the matter. The companies say analog networks are inefficient and costly to maintain, and want to shut them down to improve digital service. About 15% of the 140 million wireless customers in the U.S. use analog phones. (Update: Wireless Week reports that the FCC has made the announcement as expected.)
