Ericsson today announced the world's first Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) solution based on the new Wireless Village standards. Ericsson is announcing both the availability and the first commercial deployment of its solution. This solution enables users to view other users' presence, send and receive Instant Messages and join community chats on their mobile handset, independently of device manufacturer. Wireless Village is the mobile IMPS initiative founded by Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia in April 2001 to define and promote a set of universal specifications for mobile instant messaging and presence services.
