Orange Deploys First IP Backbone

UK mobile operator Orange UK has completed the transition and expansion of its GSM network to an IP-transport signaling solution. The new network replaces an older time division multiplex (TDM)-based signaling network, and represents the first large-scale deployment of an international IP signaling network. This type of IP network is a key component of upcoming 3G networks and services.
