Microsoft Announces Bluetooth Update, Hardware

Microsoft today announced the Microsoft® Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth, which includes a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and transceiver. The package will be widely available in November and will retail for $159. The product, in conjunction with a new update to Windows XP, allows consumers to integrate numerous Bluetooth compatible devices, such as mobile phones, with their PC. When used with a laptop, a Bluetooth compatible mobile phone can act as a modem for the computer. Microsoft however does not support the Bluetooth sync protocol. Unlike Apple’s iSync, Microsoft's Bluetooth solution can only sync with Bluetooth-enabled phones and handheld devices that support Microsoft’s proprietary ActiveSync technology.
