Qualcomm Announces New Multi-Network 3G Chips

Qualcomm today announced details of two new 3G chipsets. The MSM6500™ supports CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO standards, as well as roaming on GSM/GPRS systems. The company also introduced the MSM6250™ chipset, which operates on WCDMA (UMTS) and GSM/GPRS networks, and includes support for advanced multimedia, including megapixel camera support. Both chipsets also include an ARM processor, Jazelle™ Java™ acceleration, Bluetooth support, MPEG-4 video encoding and decoding, GPS position location, and USB OTG, which allows phones to be connected directly to USB peripherals such as printers, digital cameras, keyboards, and CD-ROMs. Samples of both chipsets are expected to ship in the second quarter of calendar 2003.
