New Software Teaches Camera Phones To Read
Feb 10, 2003, 7:49 PM by (staff)
International Wireless today unveiled two new OCR software products for camera-enabled mobile devices. "CheckPoint" reads symbolic information on checks, such as account numbers. CheckPoint allows mobile merchants to scan the numbers on the bottom of a check and verify the funds, reducing losses from bounced checks. "WebPoint" enables the visual recognition and decoding of web addresses. Users can simply aim their camera phone at a web address and, with a stroke of the keypad, display that site on screen. These applications complement the company's previously-announced "CodePoint" software for reading bar codes.
