Mar 3, 2003, 1:46 PM by (staff)
Europe's first large-scale 3G networks inched closer to launching today. European carrier "3" officially introduced its new UMTS 3G service in the UK and Italy, on the symbolic date 03/03/03 - also the birthday of Alexander Graham Bell. The networks, which support full-motion video services, are live in many areas, and shoppers can try out the service in person at a handful of stores. Customers can pre-order phones, although they will not be delivered until the end of the month. 3's initial offerings include two phones from NEC and one from Motorola.
