In an earnings conference call yesterday, Handspring CEO Donna Dubinsky outlined the company's plans for future Treo smart-phone devices. As part of a new strategy focusing on fewer but stronger carrier relationships, the company has formed major partnerships with Sprint PCS and Orange, a European carrier. The company will release a new Treo device in the 3rd quarter, with a CDMA version for Sprint PCS, and a GSM version for Orange. The devices will be tailored to each carrier's needs, although a generic version will also be released, and Handspring hopes to form a third major partnership by the 4th quarter.
