Carriers Step Up Phone Recycling Efforts

AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless recently announced new efforts to refurbish and recycle used cell phones to benefit charitable causes. The efforts are designed to protect the environment by preventing toxic materials in cell phones from entering the waste stream. AT&T's program also refurbishes old phones for organizations such as the Red Cross, and recycles phones to benefit Keep America Beautiful. Verizon's program refurbishes and recycles phones for HopeLine, a domestic-violence organization.
