Cingular and AT&T Wireless today announced a new joint venture to expand GSM/GPRS network coverage along 3,000 miles of interstate highways in predominantly Mid-western and Western states. The new network is expected to be operational in the first quarter 2003. Once the network is built, customers of both companies will have continuous access to advanced wireless data services and seamless functionality when traveling from coast to coast. The joint venture will allow both companies to introduce advanced services in these areas far sooner and cheaper than would otherwise be possible.
