Texas Instruments Planning CDMA Chips

Texas Instruments (TI) today revealed that it plans to expand its presence in the cdma2000 market with products expected to be offered to a broad base of customers beginning next quarter. TI has traditionally focused on GSM, and is the leading semiconductor provider for GSM. TI also makes the OMAP chips that power many handhelds and smartphones. Most CDMA chips are currently manufactured by Qualcomm, although Nokia and Samsung make some CDMA chips for their own handsets.
