Ericsson Demos SIM-Based WiFi Roaming
May 28, 2003, 9:35 AM by (staff)
Ericsson last week successfully demonstrated the first standards-based solution that allows users a single sign-on for both GSM and WLAN (Wi-Fi) networks. At the WLAN Event in London, a WLAN-enabled laptop was authenticated (identified) using the same simple procedure used for GSM calls. Such systems offer users higher speed connection at Hotspots, and true mobility through nationwide GSM coverage, with easy logon and one bill for both WLAN and mobile use. Ericsson's solution, building on 3GPP standards, assures equipment from all vendors will be interoperable.
