Palm and Handspring today announced that Palm will acquire Handspring. The Palm board also gave final approval for the spin-off of PalmSource, the group responsible for developing and licensing the Palm™ OS. Immediately following the completion of the spin-off this fall, Handspring will be merged with the remaining Palm Solutions Group, and the merged company will be renamed later in the year. The merged company will be structured around two business units: handheld computing solutions, and smartphone solutions.
