updated MiTAC this week officially launched its Mio 8380 smartphone. The launch marks a major milestone for Microsoft's Windows Powered Smartphone platform. The 8380 is the first Microsoft Smartphone to launch commercially from a manufacturer other than HTC. The phone also represents several other "firsts" for the Microsoft platform, including a clamshell form factor, an Intel XScale processor, an integrated camera, and MIDP 2.0 Java. The tri-band GSM phone will be available later this month in China, and next month in Taiwan.
