Microsoft Announces Phone Edition, Smartphone Reference Designs

Microsoft today announced Phone Edition, a software addition for its Pocket PC 2002 operating system for handhelds. The new software makes possible new Pocket PC handhelds with built-in phone and wireless data capabilities. Microsoft also announced that it is working with Intel and Texas Instruments to develop reference designs for phones that will use Microsoft's upcoming Windows Powered Smartphone 2002 operating system. The reference designs should help such phones reach the market faster.
