AT&T And Ericsson Announce First UMTS 3G Call In USA

AT&T Wireless and Ericsson this week completed the first live 3G UMTS voice call in the United States. The system used for the test was part of Ericsson's volume production of UMTS equipment. AT&T is currently moving to GSM/GPRS technology, which will be followed by EDGE technology, then UMTS. UMTS, which uses WCDMA technology, is the dominant 3G standard currently being deployed in Europe.
