Xerox yesterday announced a new imaging technology that can effectively turn megapixel camera phones into portable document scanners. The software, optimized for images of printed documents, handwritten notes, and whiteboards, corrects for poor lighting, distorted images, blurring, shadows, reflections, and other problems frequently encountered in a real-world environment. The software also uses G4 fax compression to reduce the file size to 1/10 that of JPEG, making it easy to send and print.
