FCC Forms Incentive Auction Task Force
Mar 21, 2012, 12:43 PM by Eric M. Zeman
The Federal Communications Commission today announced the formation of a task force to oversee incentive auctions. The idea behind the incentive auctions is to deploy market forces and a market-based mechanism to repurpose spectrum for flexible use, including mobile broadband. Owners of television broadcast spectrum will be allowed to auction their spectrum assets to others willing to use them for mobile broadband services. Incentive auctions are part of the FCC's National Broadband Plan. The task force, which is being spearheaded by Ruth Milkman, will oversee and manage the incentive auction processes and associated legislation.
