Samsung today announced MMCmicro, a tiny new type of memory card based on MMC (multi-media card) technology. MMCmicro cards measure 12 x 14 mm, making them about one-third the size of the RS-MMC format, and only slightly larger than TransFlash cards. Like TransFlash, MMCmicro is specifically designed to be used in small mobile phones. Samsung will begin mass production of MMCmicro cards in 2005, in 32, 64 and 128 MB sizes. Samsung is working on standardizing MMCmicro with the Multimedia Card Association (MMCA).
