OmniVision Drops Two More Cameras for Smartphones

OmniVision Technologies today announced two more CMOS camera modules designed for high-end smartphones and tablets. The OV12830 is a 12.7-megapixel sensor that uses the company's 1.1-micron OmniBSI-2 pixel architecture. It can capture 1080p HD video at 60 frames per second; full resolution 12-megapixel still images in bursts of at 24 frames per second; and 10-megapixel images in a 16:9 aspect ratio in bursts at 30 frames per second. The OVM7675 joins OmniVision's CameraCubeChip family and is intended to serve as the user-facing camera in smartphones and tablets. The OVM7675 uses OmniPixel3-HS technology, which has low-light sensitivity of 1800 mV/(Lux-sec). This makes it a good performer for video chats in poor lighting conditions. It can capture VGA video at 30 frames per second. Both chips are expected to reach volume production by the fourth quarter of the year.
