Huawei and ZTE Again in Legal Crosshairs

U.S. lawmakers are once again eying Chinese tech firms Huawei and ZTE over their potential ties to the Chinese government. Representatives Mike Rogers and C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger are investigating the threat of digital spying from China and have sent letters to Huawei and ZTE requesting more information about their relationship with Beijing. In addition to querying about Huawei and ZTE's government relationships, the U.S. also requested details about the two firms' ties to five U.S. consulting firms, their recent business deals in Iran, and their funding arrangements with the Chinese government. "We're very concerned about the Chinese government hacking our national networks," said Ruppersberger. Huawei and ZTE have both made progress in winning U.S. business in recent years, including both wireless networking equipment and handsets sales to U.S. network operators.
