Microsoft today revealed the underpinning details about a major upgrade to its smartphone platform called Windows Phone 8. The most significant piece of news is that Windows Phone 8 will share its core Windows NT kernel with Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 platform. Microsoft believes that this will make it easier for developers to target Microsoft's entire platform range, from desktops to laptops, tablets, and smartphones. These changes, along with new C and C++ tools being offered to developers lead Microsoft to believe that the Windows Phone 8 operating system will be an outstanding gaming platform once launched.
