Nokia Slashes Series 40 Replacement Platform

Nokia has cancelled plans to replace its Series 40 platform with a new Linux-based system called Meltemi, reports Reuters. Citing three sources familiar with Nokia's plans, Reuters says the Meltemi project was cancelled as part of Nokia's on-going cost-cutting measures. Meltemi was meant to help Nokia fend off low-cost Android handsets in developing markets, which is where Nokia sells the bulk of its Series 40 handsets. Series 40 has been around for nearly a decade, and is currently sold in Nokia's Asha line of devices. Nokia did not comment on Reuters' report.

Seriously?

Why does Elop hate this company so bad? This could have been something to help Nokia because I'm pretty sure WP8 isn't going to double the market share or profits. Ahh the good old days of the N95 and E71...
