ARM today announced the Mali-T600 Series graphics processor architecture, bringing 50% greater performance and better battery life to ARM-based devices, compared to the previous generation. The Series includes the T624, T628, and T678, with each design offering up to twice the performance of the one below it. The T624 supports up to four cores while the T628 and T678 support up to eight cores. The T600 Series uses Adaptive Scalable Texture Compression (ASTC), a technique that provides finely-tuned visual compression for optimal efficiency. Various chip makers will incorporate the Mali-T600 designs into their chips, including Samsung with its Exynos processor. Chips using these new designs should hit the market some time next year.
