Aug 20, 2012, 11:09 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Sony today unveiled three new CMOS sensors for smartphones and other devices that fall under the Exmor RS brand. Two of the new sensors rate 8 megapixels and the third rates 13 megapixels. The sensors are paired with new f/2.2 lenses, better auto-focus, are capable of better low-light performance, and will be able to shoot HDR (high-dynamic range) video. Sony says that despite the new features, the modules have the same measurements of earlier Exmor sensors. Sony expects to ramp up full-scale production of the new Exmor RS sensors by October.
