Bluetooth SIG Adopts New Exercise Profiles
Aug 27, 2012, 7:20 AM by Eric M. Zeman
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group today announced that it has adopted two new profiles aimed at the sports and fitness market. The profiles target runners and cyclists, and are called the Running Speed and Cadence, and Cycling Speed and Cadence profiles, respectively. They take advantage of Bluetooth 4.0 for low-power sensors that can be used on exercise and training equipment. The new profiles will help certain devices interact wirelessly with smartphones, tablets, and other Bluetooth gear. The Bluetooth SIG didn't say when it expects these profiles to become available to consumer-facing products.
