Verizon Wireless Offering Android Security Apps

Verizon Wireless today announced two custom-made security applications for Android devices. The apps were created through a joint venture between Verizon Wireless, Asurion, and McAfee and are meant to help protect consumers from malware and other threats. Verizon Mobile Security Basic is a free app that provides anti-malware protection and uses McAfee's SiteAdvisor tool to warn smartphone owners about potentially suspicious web sites. Verizon Mobile Security Premium adds a number of features, including details about which apps are accessing, storing, and/or transmitting user data to/from the device. It also adds the ability to remotely lock, wipe, or locate a lost or stolen device. The Premium version of the app costs $1.99 per month per device. Verizon customers who are subscribed to the Total Equipment Protection insurance plan can add Verizon Mobile Security Premium for $1 per month.
