Facebook today pushed out updates to both its Android and iOS mobile applications. Facebook for Android receives an overhaul similar to the one that iOS received several weeks ago. It includes a number of under-the-hood tweaks that speed the app up. Facebook Messenger for Android was also updated with a new layout that Facebook says will make it easier to discover friends who are online. Messenger also gained the ability to send instant messages via text message rather than over the data connection. The iOS version of Facebook was updated so that it is compatible with iOS 6 and the iPhone 5.
