FreedomPop Launches Beta Broadband Service

FreedomPop today began offering mobile broadband services under the "beta" label. The company resells access to Clearwire's WiMax network, though it will eventually switch to Sprint's LTE 4G network. FreedomPop is offering 500MB of mobile broadband for free each month, with additional gigabytes costing $10 each. The company isn't selling phones; rather, it is offering a mobile hotspot and a laptop dongle to start, with WiMax sleeves for the iPhone and iPod Touch to follow later. The hotspot and laptop dongle are "free," though they require refundable deposits of $89 and $49, respectively. FreedomPop is also offering rewards for certain customer behaviors. For example, customers who sit through ad can earn an extra data each month, and customers who refer friends or family can also be rewarded with additional buckets of data. FreedomPop is offering data speeds ranging from 4 to 6Mbps down and 1 to 2Mbps up.

Good deal

This will be a really good deal once Sprint has more LTE coverage and Clearwire launches its "5000" LTE sites in June 2013. I would do this if I lived in an area with Wimax even. 😎
