T-Mobile USA today announced that it has partnered with security app provider Lookout, in order to protect T-Mobile Android devices from app-based threats. Lookout's Automatic App Security software will be preloaded on certain devices this year (starting with the LG Optimus L9) and is expected to be installed on most T-Mobile Android phones shipped in 2013. The application will not need any type of set up, it works automatically in the background whenever the phone is turned on. The software will scan downloaded apps for potential threats. Apps that the Lookout software believes are not secure won't install and the device owner will be notified so appropriate steps can be taken. This software and service is free. Lookout and T-Mobile are also offering Lookout Premium, which adds the ability to back-up photos, as well as remotely lock devices and wipe content, for $2.99 per month.

Forward Thinking

This app is amazing, if it actually works. But people, this app is no replacement for using common sence with the apps that you download. Everybody should of course be vigilant with the apps they chose to download and use. I don't agree with this app being preloaded, as the article says, if it is always running in the background, that will decrease available RAM and decrease battery life.
Whenever a company preloads garbage on to a device, it's never a good day. To be honest, I have been using android devices for a full year now, and have never ever required the use of any anti-virus/spyware/malware service. Never ever.
