Broadcom Intros Three Processors for Android Smartphones

Broadcom today announced a trio of new baseband/processor packages for Android devices. All three are based on the ARM Cortex A9 architecture and support Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The BCM21654G features a single-core 1GHz processor, HSPA, and 720p video; the BCM21664T features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, HSPA+, and 1080p video; and the BCM28145/155 features a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, HSPA+, and 1080p video. Broadcom believes these baseband/processor packages, which include a number of components combined on a single piece of silicon, will allow smartphone makers to bring devices to market faster while also letting them focus on developing their own value-added features. All three chips are already sampling and will reach volume production later this month.
