Qualcomm Adds to Its S4 Smartphone Processor Line

Qualcomm today announced two new quad-core Snapdragon processors meant for high-volume global smartphones. The MSM8226 and MSM8626 are both S4 processors that made using Qualcomm's 28nm technology. According to Qualcomm, the MSM8226 and MSM8626 have four cores and Adreno GPUs, and support 13-megapixel cameras with 1080p video capture and playback. They include the WTR2605 radio transceiver, which supports TD-SCDMA (for Chinese wireless networks), CDMA 1x, and HSPA+ wireless networks in addition to GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou. Qualcomm says the wireless radio is 40% more power efficient and 60% smaller than the preceding generation chip. Both chips will be sampling by the end of the second quarter of 2013.
