EV-DO Rev. A Reaches Milestone with Chipset Sampling
Apr 13, 2005, 11:58 AM by (staff)
Qualcomm today announced sampling of the MSM6800 chipset, the industry's first mobile phone chipset to support CDMA 1xEV-DO revision A. The revision A standard improves on current EV-DO revision 0 technology by increasing peak download speed 30%, and increasing upload speed over 12 times, which will enable high-speed 2-way services such as video calling. Revision A also adds Quality of Service (QoS) to enable reliable VoIP services, and Multicast to enable live video streaming of major events. The sampling process allows manufacturers to receive low volumes of MSM6800 chipsets to finish development of phones that will use the chipset. The CSM6800 chipset for revision A network equipment began sampling in December.
