Facebook today announced an update to its Android and iOS mobile apps that brings new functions to the Nearby feature. Nearby is a local search tool meant to help smartphone owners find and locate nearby venues and points of interest. The update to Facebook adds the ability to see what nearby places the users' Facebook friends have liked or checked into, as well as the ability to rate, review, and share details about nearby places with the users' own friend list. Facebook calls this change to Nearby an "early release" and says that more features are on the way. Facebook is a free download from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store.
