Broadcom Licenses ARM, Will Make Integrated Chips

Broadcom today announced that it has licensed the ARMv7 and ARMv8 architectures so it can build its own mobile processors. To-date, Broadcom has only offered baseband modules (used to talk to the mobile network) and not processors. By licensing ARM, Broadcom will be able to develop, build, and market its own, integrated system-on-a-chip products to better compete with Qualcomm and others. Many of today's top Android smartphones use ARM-based processors.
