Mozilla and Samsung Partner on New Mobile Browser

Mozilla today revealed that it has been working with Samsung to create a new mobile web browser from the ground up. The companies have ported the experimental browser engine, called Servo, and the still-in-development Rust programming language to the Android platform and ARM architecture. Now that they've reached this point, Mozilla and Samsung believe they can make quicker progress on this new browser, which will be built with multi-core processors and parallel computing in mind. They believe it will eventually offer a nimble and secure alternative to today's browsers. Mozilla said the Rust programming language has reached version 0.6 in recent weeks and believes that it will complete a major new version of the programming language within a year. Mozilla and Samsung are offering developers early builds of Rust and Servo so they can see what the two companies are working on. Mozilla didn't say when it expects a 1.0 browser to come out of the partnership.
