Samsung Divides Display For Lower Power Use

Samsung has announced a new section type LCD display that should begin appearing in phones as early as this fall. The display is a single 1.15 inch unit, most likely designed as an external screen for clamshells or a main screen for inexpensive candybar style phones. The unit is divided into two sections - one which can stay on all the time as a watch and icon display for signal strength, battery and notififications, and a second larger area for when the phone is in use. By separating control for the two sections, the display will use 1/6 the power of a full display of the same size when in standby mode. The display also has significantly improved contrast and viewing angle for easier use outdoors.

That sound kinda cool. What do the rest of y'all think?
If it increases talk and standby time, I'm all for it.
