Samsung and LG have both signed agreements with Kineto Wireless to develop UMA handsets using Kineto's technology. Both manufacturers will develop handsets that allows for seamless handoff of voice and data between cellular networks and Wi-Fi access points. Kineto claims there is a rapidly growing demand among operators for phones with UMA technology. So far only British Telecom in cooperation with Orange has launched a UMA capable handset. Their technology, however, uses Class 1 Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi to connect the phone to an internet base station.
