Qualcomm Chipset Pushes Multimedia Envelope

Qualcomm today announced a new chipset with dual processors for high powered smartphone and connected multimedia devices. The MSM7500 is an EV-DO Rev. A chipset with separate modem and computing processors which Qualcomm designed with a wide range of devices in mind from smartphones to PDAs to personal media players. The chips have an ARM 11 application processor compatible with Linux, BREW and other functions, plus a separate modem processor and ATI 3D graphics engine. In addition to Qualcomm's support for 8 megapixel cameras and high resolution displays, the MSM7500 also supports video out and additional wireless protocols. The company did not announce when the chip will be available.
