AT&T today announced that beginning October 25 it will push all new customers to choose one of its Mobile Share plans. According to AT&T, its Mobile Share plans have become its most popular in the year since first released. New customers will be allowed to choose from several different Mobile Share plans, which start at $50 for basic phones and $70 for smartphones. These plans both include unlimited talk and text and 300MB of shared data. AT&T said that there will be no change for current customers, who can switch to a Mobile Share plan or remain with their existing plan. The Mobile Share plans allow customers to mix and match different devices on the same account. For example, tablets can be added to a Mobile Share plan for $10 per month. Mobile Share plans support up to 10 connected devices that all share the same data allotment. Tethering is included in Mobile Share plans, as well.

New Family Plan?

Surely they mean 'new family plan' right? Because there doesn't really seem to be any benefit to a mobile share plan someone on an individual plan. Mobile share will almost certainly cost most people more.
I sign individuals up for Mobile Share constantly as most of the time Mobile Share is a less expensive and more fully featured set up than what they have. A retired man or woman with a basic phone or college student with no need for a smartphone.......

new share plans

Looks to me like they are raising the rates by eliminating individual plans. Not by much. For instance, I have 3gb data and 450 anytime minutes + unlimited text and mobile to mobile for $89 and change (really $97 after fees). The new deal if I were to switch would give me unlimited text, talk and 2gb data for 95 + fees. About $5/mo more with 1gb less data.

I agree with them on simplifying choices though.
The plan you have is really the only one I'll miss. Otherwise, Mobile Share is almost always the best option, yeah.

That, and family plans with multiple non-smartphones. They're better with FamilyTalk hands-down.

Tethering question

The last line reads "Tethering is included in Mobile Share plans, as well."

Now is this where you physically connect your device to your laptop via cable or is the hotspot feature where the wireless phone sits there and broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal? Just curious since people get the tethering idea mixed up.
It includes both physical tethering (via USB) and mobile hotspot usage (via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth).

Of note, it only supports smartphones, NOT tablets.
