AOL has purchased Wildseed, adding the company to their portfolio of mobile software providers. Originally offering customizable phones using removable covers with embedded memory chips (smart skins), Wildseed has recently shifted its focus to mobile Linux applications and interface customization. AOL is looking to sell more software and customization to OEMs who want to develop their own services. AOL already owns Tegic, the maker of T9, and other technologies that OEMs use to customize handsets.
