Sep 23, 2005, 12:09 PM by (staff)
Qualcomm today announced they are adding support for Wi-Fi to their 3G chipsets. Initially one CDMA2000 and WCDMA chipset will include support for an 802.11 b/g chip from Philips. Qualcomm's chip supports simultaneous cellular voice and Wi-Fi data access, opening up a wide possibility of options for operating systems that also support multiple data connections. The revised Qualcomm chips as well as Philips' Wi-Fi chips should both be commercially available to manufacturers by the end of 2005.
