Research in Motion (RIM) is preparing to update most of its BlackBerry lineup over the next 6 months, according to FCC documents and credible information that has surfaced over the past month. The BlackBerry 7100i (pictured) was just approved by the FCC, and brings the compact new 7100-series design to iDEN networks, including Nextel. The 7100i features Bluetooth, PTT, and an oversize speakerphone. The company is also preparing a BlackBerry 7130, which will bring the 7100 series to CDMA networks. Meanwhile, the 7100 series for GSM is due for an update with the 7105 for T-Mobile, and there are persistent rumors of a next-generation BlackBerry 8700 series with EDGE high-speed data. RIM just last week announced a deal with Intel for chipsets with EDGE.
