Nextel Shares Pictures Over PTT
Nov 7, 2005, 1:37 PM by (staff)
Sprint Nextel today launched picture sharing over Nextel's Push To Talk (PTT) walkie talkie network. Direct Send Picture allows one user to snap a picture during a PTT session and instantly share it with the other participant. Sharing the picture does not require the users to leave the PTT session or even exit the application because it is transmitted as a walkie talkie message, not a multimedia message which would use standard cellular data protocols. The service is initially only available to users of the new i870, however compatibility updates will soon be issued for other recent models. The service is free until the end of February, after which each image will cost 25 cents to send or receive.
