Google today announced Magic Editor, a new feature of Google Photos coming later this year that builds on Magic Eraser by letting users make more types of changes to photos. Users will be able to easily select subjects and move them around, with missing backgrounds and cut-off details automatically generated using AI.

Google is changing how Maps stores your location history, moving it on-device by default and encrypting it when saved to the cloud. This change means even Google can't access that data, which also means Google will no longer be able to respond to "geo-fence" warrants from police wanting to know who was in a given area at a given time.

The FCC has launched a new mobile app for consumers to test the data performance of mobile networks themselves and contribute to the FCC's database of real-world mobile broadband speeds by area. Unlike the old app, the new FCC Mobile Speed Test app has a "Repeated test" function that lets users enter their info once for a series of tests, including hands-free mobile tests while driving.

FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel this week proposed that the FCC effectively outlaw robocalls made with AI-generated voices, including new voice cloning technology. Robocalls made using "artificial" voices are already banned, so this is more of a regulatory clarification, expressly stating that AI-generated voices qualify as "artificial" under the existing Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

Google has announced its latest lineup of Pixel phones. The four Pixel 10 models have the same naming scheme and basic outer designs as last year's Pixel 9 series, but manage to make important upgrades to the batteries, cameras, processor, and durability.
