Big Names Unite Behind DVB-H

Motorola, Nokia, Crown Castle and others have united to form the Mobile DTV Alliance. This union of manufacturers, DTV providers and chip makers will work together to push DVB-H as the standard for mobile TV in North America. Nokia and Crown Castle are already trialing DVB-H in the US, and many other alliance participants have announced plans to bring DVB-H compatible hardware to the States. No US carrier has announced support for DVB-H yet, but it is expected that at least GSM carriers will support the standard. Verizon recently announced they would use a competing technology, Qualcomm's FLO for digital TV.
