Facebook Messenger No Longer Requires Facebook Account
Jun 24, 2015, 12:09 PM by Eric M. Zeman

Facebook said beginning today people do not have to have a Facebook account to use Facebook Messenger. When first loading the app, users will have the option of signing in with a phone number rather than their Facebook account. Facebook says people who sign in via phone number will have all the same features as Facebook users, including photos, videos, group chats, voice and video calling, and stickers. Facebook still encourages people to sign in with their Facebook account, but it is no longer necessary. The new feature is launching first in Canada, the United States, Peru, and Venezuela.
