Pininfarina announced it has entered a 3 year deal to design phones for Motorola. From March 2006-2009, the company will design handsets for Motorola's iDen group. Though the three year contract is new, the two companies already had a relationship which yielded the Ferrari-inspired i836 as well as new models due out later this year. With this contract, Motorola will use Pininfarina designs for all iDen phones through 2010. With stronger phones designs due out for the whole line, special edition models following in the line of the i836 will primarily be for markets outside the US.
