GreatCall Inc. today launched a new MVNO service called Jitterbug targeted at older users. The service will launch with a special phone designed in cooperation with Samsung. The Samsung A120 features a simple design and UI, oversize buttons and graphics, and a cushioned cup around the earpiece to improve sound quality in noisy environments. To make the experience easier for users transitioning from landlines, the phone even makes a dial tone sound when opened. The phone also features one-touch access to an operator. Plans are expected to start as low as $10 per month, with $25/month being an average plan. The company expects to start trials this summer, with commercial launch after Labor Day. The MVNO is the latest of many to use the Sprint network, although Sprint executives today revealed plans to slow the introduction of new MVNOs on their network.

The Early Bird Special?

With mobile technology becoming more and more mainstream by the day, it's logical to see companies try to corner the senior demographic. However, for the sake of promotion snd to kick off the new service, I believe Jitterbug should throw in a bottle of VIAGARA with every new activation. I mean, mobiles are for people of the go, right? People with things to DO, right? Sex, a mobile w/dialtone, and oversized numbers....what a way to go.....VERY PIMP???
What an asshat. It's spelt Viagra by the way...what are you, 10, 12 tops?

Please stop posting such drivel on phonescoop. And learn basic grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.

I'm suddenly afraid of the kids graduating from public school f...

Slowing the tide...

...of incoming MVNOs on Sprint's network. I was wondering when this was coming. CDMA handles a lot of capacity, but it does have its limits. Even I'm not sure seniors should be a targeted demographic when it comes to cellular service.
What's wrong with targetting to seniors? I'm glad they're finally coming out with phones that an older person can use. My grandparents kind of need one, just in case their away from home and they need to get ahold of someone. Current models are too...

Good idea in my view

I think this is another good idea to attack the senior market, as an MVNO on sprint's network becuase sprint has tons of capacity to lease and they are number 1 with MVNOs.

They already target the prepaid markets with Virgin mobile and Boost mobile, which is a many many billion dollar market and now they get into seniors which is another many billions of dollars market.

i think others should also get into those 2 areas as well to bring in more revenue..
While I think the phone itself is stupid(except for the large keypad), I think what will attract the "seniors" will be the price of the plans. With TMO dropping the $19.99 plan a little while back...a huge gaping hole was left in the market.

So, l...

Buick?

Should we just call this the Buick of cell phones? Only old people and Tiger Woods drive buicks. I wonder if the ear piece is made out of the same thing as stool cushions.

The new Samsung Buick
I think this is the greatest idea-r i've heard in a long time. But i doubt its like a stool cushion. Its probably more like a mouse pad. Or to throw us all off, it could be made out of hard plastic.

The 3G Special Content Might be a bit SCARY...

Can you imagine? Vid clips of the Golden Girls in BIKINIS ! ! ! !

Or a new show, just for Jitterbug users... 'Baywatch Pasadena'.

😳 😳 😳 😳 😳
🙄
Yeah, and the newest season of "80210". Straight from the streets of Glendale, Co. Here you can follow Lester, and his daily struggle with an addiction to Centrum Silver. 😉

The commercials will be priceless!

I can see grandpa now. Strollin' down the sidewalk with his walker, phone in tow. I'm so curious though, pretty much all the old people that can handle and want to handle cell phones have them. But those who feel it's just too much couldn't care less. How are they going to appeal to that?

The dial-tone thing is cool though. I want that on my phone really really bad. 😁

Also, holy crap sprint, have enough MVNOs yet?
I just had an old woman come in yesterday asking why here phone never rang...it wasn't turned on.

"I have to turn it on for it to work?"

I almost pinched myself...

And yeah, that dial tone thing will def. help them.

Hahaha - yeah the commercials will be quite the hilarious riot. I must admit, the Boost Mobile ones were kinda funny, but they were supposed to be. . . I think with Jitterbug Mobile, we could see the most unintentionally hilarious commercial since "I...

I totally see Wilford Brimley being involved with this somehow. He's going for the old-people trifecta...oatmeal, medicine, and cell phones that have a dial tone. Rock.
